Anonymous asked: Is it alright to believe in God but not consider yourself a christian? I have my own reason for this and all, but that takes up a lot of explanation. I believe that our God sent his son to die for us and all of that, but I don't like the thought of calling myself a christian if I keep doing.. non christian stuff. Understand me? Kinda? eh. It's complicated in my eyes.
Your problem doesn’t come from a term, it comes from feeling unworthy. The term was coined by others outside of the fellowship at Antioch in Acts 11:26.
We are not accepted or justified by our own righteousness. Romans 5:1 We are justified through faith. Our spirit is righteous, the Holy Spirit indwells us and we’re dead to sin , Rom 6:11, Romans 6:6, Col 3:3.
We’re a new creation, 2 Cor 5:17. IF we sin, Christ is our advocate 1 John 2. Just because there is sin doesn’t mean you aren’t born again. We are made new though, and have the power to never sin again. It’s when we realize that through faith we’re made new but that there’s forgiveness when we mess up, fail, disobey. It shouldn’t be lifestyle, but is assurance that we aren’t held down because we mess up.
